To me, a person sitting in a public place constantly sniffing, is one of the most annoying things. Sometimes it is succesful to hand them a tissue, sometimes a look will do, but mostly, they will resume sniffing after a few minutes, after they stop giving your discomfort any credit.
Now when I have the sniffles, I am not above giving the occational sniff, no no, it’s just that I try to actually clear the passages enough to be presentable in a public setting. Granted, a sniffle nose is harder to clear than say a super runny one, but still, one can try. If blowing doesn’t help, I’ll at least keep that kleenex on hand and dab-dab everytime it enters the realm of discomfort and I can feel the need for a good sniff coming on. One more thing, when I’m aware that the blow will sound more like a trumpet, I do leave the setting and head to a more private area so my trumpeteering won’t annoy others as much. Easier said than done sometimes
Inevitably I notice people however, that no matter how uncomfortable their allergy, or cold symptoms are, you never hear as much as a snort out of them. It’s as if their stuffy, runny, puffy red noses are just naturally silent. How do they do it?
